Black Umfolosi formed in 1982 and took their name from a river in South Africa where their ancestors can be traced. Like the zig-zagging river, Black Umfolosi are ever moving and flow effortlessly from their gentle rhythms and trademark harmonies to the signature stomping movements of their traditional Gumboot Dances. Since their humble beginnings they have grown from strength to strength and are known world-wide for their brilliantly choreographed live shows, intricate rhythmic clicking and clapping, and unrivaled beauty and enthusiasm that perfectly showcase the styles of South African music and dance.
