Lucette is the moniker of Edmonton-artist Lauren Gillis, a soulful and emotive singer who self-describes her music as “country infused dream-pop.” Her two albums vary from dark folk and southern gothic tales to what Rolling Stone describes as “a bold expansion of Lucette’s melodic sensibilities... that avoid the rootsy clichés of Americana music.” Her latest album, Deluxe Hotel Room, was produced by Sturgill Simpson.
Genre: Americana/pop
Alberta Spotlight - Lucette
Lethbridge, AB’s Ryland Moranz’ compositions span bygone days, the here and now, and what may yet be to come, both for himself and for us all. Continuing in the grand tradition of great storytellers, Ryland is lyrically poetic and sonically earthy as he moves from nostalgic balladry to gritty roots rock, all with a touch of humour. His beautiful sophomore release, XO, 1945, was released in January 2021.
Genre: Roots/folk
